Happy New Year!!!
Whatever 2023 was like for you, it’s time to let it go and move forward.
What is 2024 going to be about for you?
Take a minute to reflect on the past year, what went well? What didn’t? What changes would you like to make this year based on what you learned from the last year?
I am calling this year…”NO MORE 24” and with declaration!
This is a great time to declare some “NO MORE’S” for yourself and your life!
What is it time to let go of? To shed? What feels heavy and is weighing you down?
Well, take that thing, write it down and lets start getting creative about potential changes…
It’s time to get a new job, start therapy with your partner, read a few books about the thing that seems to be holding you back, start that creative project, get in good shape, stop using drugs and alcohol, etc.
It is TIME!
Write your NO MORE 24’s down and place it where you can see it! State the mantra to yourself when you find your mind wandering to old familiar toxic patterns.
Remind yourself often that you are making changes this year!
Why Resolutions are a No Go and why we need to set intentions for the year ahead instead…
It's definitely a time for reflection and goal-setting, but as you may know, the success rate of New Year's resolutions can be a bit...disappointing.
Here's the juicy info:
The not-so-rosy stats:
- Overall Success Rates: Studies vary, but generally, only 8-9% of people achieve their resolutions by the end of the year. That means a whopping 91-92% fall short.
- Early Decline: By February, a significant drop-off occurs, with only around 22% still sticking to their resolutions.
- Confidence vs. Reality: Interestingly, around 87% of people are initially confident they'll succeed, highlighting the optimism (or perhaps overconfidence) that fuels resolution-making.
The "why" behind the struggle:
Several factors contribute to the low success rates:
- Vague or Ambitious Goals: Resolutions like "get healthy" or "be more successful" are too broad and lack clear action steps.
- Lack of Planning and Support: Simply wishing for change isn't enough. Detailed plans, habit tracking, and social support can boost your chances.
- Motivation Fizzle: The initial excitement fades, and without ongoing motivation strategies, sticking with your goals becomes tough.
But wait, there's hope!
These stats shouldn't discourage you. By adopting smarter goal-setting and habit-building strategies, you can significantly increase your chances of success. Here are some tips:
- SMART Goals: Set Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound goals. Aim for smaller, incremental steps rather than sweeping changes.
- Focus on Progress, not Perfection: Celebrate small wins and acknowledge setbacks as learning opportunities. Don't beat yourself up for occasional stumbles.
- Find Your Why: Connect your goals to deeper values and motivations. Remind yourself why these changes are important to you.
- Accountability and Support: Share your goals with trusted friends or family, or join a support group. Regular check-ins and encouragement can keep you on track.
- Use technology to your advantage, there are tons of apps that can help you track and monitor your progress!
Remember, "New Year, New You" is a journey, not a destination. Embrace the process, learn from setbacks, and celebrate your progress, big or small. With the right approach, you can transform your resolutions into lasting positive changes.
Do you have any specific New Year's goals you'd like to share? I'd be happy to offer some personalized tips or encouragement!
Your progress in life is life long, "Slow and steady wins the race" is a much more sustainable and realistic approach to personal growth than the "New Year, New You" pressure cooker. Focusing on consistent, incremental progress throughout the year is key to achieving lasting change and avoiding burnout.
I love this shift in perspective, and I would be happy to help you brainstorm ways to set yourself up for success all year long, based on your own goals and aspirations. What areas are you hoping to grow in this year? Whether it's learning a new skill, improving your health, or strengthening relationships, I can offer tips on setting SMART goals, creating actionable plans, and establishing sustainable habits to reach your full potential.
Remember, it's not about overnight transformations, but about taking small, intentional steps every day. Let's make this year about progress, not perfection, and celebrate the joy of the journey!
Tell me about your hopes and dreams for 2024, and we can work together on your personal "slow and steady wins the race" roadmap!
